Social Network & SEO

The world of search engine optimization has changed significantly in the last 12 months. Why? Because the social media sites have come to the fore and quality content has grown even more in importance. So now the question is, how do search engines use social media to help rank websites and ensure that the content on a website does truly have high quality content?

The answer to the first part of the question is all about the activity on social media sites, sites like Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn. Quite simply put, people need to be talking about your website or blog, re-tweeting your tweets and sharing the articles you put out with their contacts or connections. The very fact there is interest in your posts will indicate what you are writing or publishing has some sort of value, and is of good quality.

Website Design Guide for Beginners – An eBook Reference Gem

Posted by BlogTime On January - 1 - 2012

The description says ‘Website Design Guide’ and ‘Demystified for Beginners’ which does sum up this offering very succinctly. But the content works equally well for blogs, especially the sections on search optimization and using the WordPress platform to create a static style website; if that is what you want. The focus of the book is very much on understanding what makes a good website or blog so that defining the requirements to a professional web designer is made much easier.

That said the second part of the book does go into the technical details of the design approach, not as specific lessons but rather in terms of how you can ensure that updating, maintaining and adding new content is relatively straightforward. There are links out to specific lessons that cover the essential design aspects required for an effective website, of the static variety, for those that do fancy taking the DIY route, but even that information is there primarily to aid understanding. There is also a whole chapter dedicated on deciding whether to take the blogging or static website design route, simply because the sophistication of blogging software allow you to seriously consider that option for either type of design approach.

There are many benefits to having a well designed website, the primary one being that it meets all the requirements of the owner. But also that it functions as required and delivers on the promise you make to potential visitors. There are many aspects to meeting that particular statement, first one being that the website is available at all times, conforms to basic website standards and essentially works on the most basic functional levels. And that is all before you consider the quality of the content and whether visitors value what is provided on the website in terms of products, services or information.

Going Mobile: 4 Tips to Make Your Blog More Mobile Friendly

Posted by BlogTime On December - 26 - 2011

As mobile and cloud technology continues to gain momentum, more and more websites and blogs are making the mobile leap. Just as personal computers revolutionized the way in which we retrieved and interacted with information, smartphones and mobile devices have revolutionized the way in which we use the internet and access material. Websites and blogs that wish to remain truly relevant among today’s internet goers must meet their mobile needs. Though creating a website that is mobile friendly can be daunting, there are many things you can do to your site that can help make it more successful on mobile devices. The most successful blogs are going to be the ones that contribute unique and engaging content that is easy to view on both a computer and mobile device. Follow these four tips to create a blog that is more mobile friendly.

Center Content

The thing to consider when making your website more mobile friendly is size and usability. Obviously, the screen on a mobile device is significantly smaller than the screen for traditional blog viewing. With this in mind, you have to make your content more easily readable on a small (tiny) screen. By centering your content on every page, this will reduce the annoyance of scrolling when viewing these pages on a mobile device. You should center your text and images to ensure an easier read for your audience.

How to Make Money with Affiliate Marketing

Posted by BlogTime On December - 19 - 2011

Affiliate marketing is one of the most popular ways to make money online, either through a Web site or a blog. The concept is simple: You sign up with an affiliate program, decide which products you want to feature, and place a specialized code on your blog. If your readers click on the ad and purchase any of the products, you receive a commission. Some programs will pay a commission based on an actual sale, but others will pay a set amount based on the number of clicks the ad receives or the number of customers who provide their personal information after clicking on the ad. Income potential from affiliate marketing varies widely, based on a number of factors including the popularity of your blog and the affiliate programs you choose. Some bloggers only make a few extra dollars a month, but others claim to make thousands. If you are interested in trying out affiliate marketing for yourself, here are a few ways that you can maximize your efforts to make the programs profitable:

Choose Quality Programs

The easiest way to get your readers to check out your ads and to buy the products is to choose quality programs that offer products they will want. Ask yourself whether you would want to buy the products that you are featuring. If you wouldn’t, why should they? Also consider the reputation of the company or its products. Amazon is a well-known affiliate program with a solid online reputation amongst its customers and quality products. Its affiliate program would be an ideal choice for your blog. Programs that have a poor reputation (or none) or poor products should be avoided.
