Searching for a subject to blog about can be quite a difficult process and one of the first obstacles a newbie blogger has to face. Many adopt the option of blogging about blogging and although that can be a beneficial route to take, it is one which has some pretty high profile competition and requires a lot of expertise to gain credibility.

The thing about blogging is that, whether you believe it or not, it is a very personal journey and it does not really matter which subject you end up adopting. If you bring to the subject your own personal style and personality, you can make inroads on any subject as long as the way you write, present yourself and interact is appealing.

So to answer the question, yes you can blog about any subject you like, even subjects that appear to be in saturation and over subscribed such as blogging about blogging. You just have to realise that when you select some subjects, which are in a highly competitive arena, you are going to have to work very hard at establishing your presence in the community that seeks out the subject matter and your passion for the subject will need to shine through.

The follow up question to ‘what does MLM stand for’ is usually ‘is MLM legal’. The reason for that is that MLM is often incorrectly associated with ‘pyramid selling’. One thing you should know is that Pyramid selling is illegal and for the vast majority of people a complete scam that results in them losing money to unscrupulous individuals that only care about one thing; extracting money from their victims.

A pure ‘pyramid scheme’ is one where money is transferred from one level of the pyramid to another with no products or services involved, ultimately that means a lot of people losing money and a very few people making a lot of money, from anyone duped into parting with their cash for nothing in return, and then disappearing into the ether.

MLM on the other hand, full name multi-level marketing, is completely legitimate and is simply a process or business model through which products and or services are offered via a network marketing structure. That may sound a little bit like jargon, but don’t worry all will be explained.

So is getting traffic to your blog a black art or is there a secret formula that guarantees you success. Perhaps just paying Google for position is the answer. I attended an advanced tips and techniques webinar with Google the other day discussing lots of different ways for getting a better click through rate on your Adsense ads. There were some really good techniques shared but not much said about getting traffic to your blog, a little bit to be fair but really not that much.

Now for me the biggest influence on Adsense income is getting traffic to your blog in enough quantities that you get a reasonable number of clicks. So when they opened the webinar up to a questions and answers session, I asked one simple question. I basically put up the question what is the most important feature of a blog that will result in Google placing it high up on the search engine results page, the consequence of which is getting traffic to your blog.

I was playing devils advocate a bit, because I pretty much knew what the response to that question would be…..

The best style blogs are first and foremost the ones that have a message to communicate or a problem to solve and do it by providing great content. Before you get overly concerned with the look of your blog you need to understand that the main reason people visit blogs is to gain access to quality content. Some of the most highly visited blogs I have found have used standard format templates and just got on with the business of communicating with their target audience.

Its also worth noting that search engines can’t tell the difference between a highly polished, all singing and all dancing blog any more than they can a bog standard off the shelf template that comes as your starter for ten.
