There are back linking strategies which are totally inappropriate and will harm your website e.g. using link farms and irrelevant links. But there are other linking strategies which are highly effective and  valuable for promoting your website, gaining traffic and improving page rank e.g. via article submission.

I think this should be made clear, rather than using an inappropriate sweeping generalisation.</description>
