Personal Blogging Can Supplement Blogging for Business
3I have been hitting the business side of blogging quite hard for a while now with posts on article submission, duplicate content, adsense revenue and affiliate relationships; naming but a few of the subjects I have touched on.
So I thought given the time of year, plus I was a Christmas baby (well nearly it was the 20th December i.e. tomorrow), that I would take a slight detour and do a post on personal blogging. Actually it is a thinly disguised post about business blogging really.
Personal blogging comes very much under the remit of reaching out to communicate with the wider world. This can be by writing a great article, producing a bit of poetry, exploring the history of our times or simply stating a point of view. The latter of course being something every human should have the right to do but is certainly not the end of the list of personal topics.
Now the experts will tell you that the writing of a personal blog should be done as a separate exercise to any business publications you may be involved with. I suppose to an extent I agree with that sentiment, but there is always a but.
When you write on a personal basis you are revealing a little bit of yourself, you are sharing with your audience an insight into who you are.
You really should not be concerned that by doing this, you may affect your business adversely in some way. It is my belief that if you have integrity and you are prepared to share a little about your personal interests and world view, that it is possible to connect with like minded people and maybe establish a friendship or two.
In truth business revolves around relationships, there are not many successful people in this world who have acheived their success in total isolation. Nearly everyone needs a helping hand once in a while, and you are more likely to get a helping hand by offering your own in the first place and by establishing relationships with the people you deal with or who may come to you for assistance.
That said the world wide web is a big place and there will be those that frown on openness, see it as naivety and will look to exploite it. So don’t share all your intimate details, don’t provide unnecessary access to information that really isn’t anyone else’s business and don’t leave yourself open for abuse.
If you take care, get the balance right between openness and confidentiality, you may just find that getting personal is the stepping stone you need for online success.
As a final point, there is no better medium for you to trial your writing skills than blogging. Your audience is potentially huge, you will find critics, you can make friends and not everyone will agree with you, so remember, don’t take it personally.
I think you can never go wrtong with a little personal blogging mixed into your bix blogging.
Best way to connect with your readers. Show who you are, and that you actually have a personality..lol
