The Money Is In The List, How to Get A List of Email Addresses
6That is actually easier said than done, especially when you have an audience that has learned over time that putting their name and email address in that harmless looking form is probably going to result in them receiving multiple emails each and every day from that time forth. Usually promising them the best thing since sliced bread for making an instant fortune, tearing Google apart, beating the system, tearing up the rule book and exposing a huge loophole that will make them rich beyond their wildest dreams overnight.
Problem is that most of the time, the promises bear no fruit, the instant fortune doesn’t appear and many of the individuals who employ this tactic are simply trying to make money out of you and don’t really care what happens once they have their cash. That is clearly not true of everyone, there are many people who also believe very strongly in what they are offering and have a genuine desire to help you out. Lets face it, there is enough business going through the Internet to keep everyone reasonably well paid; even when it is restricted to legitimate businesses with real value and not everyone, believe it or not, wants to be a millionaire. Some people just want to make a comfortable living.
So what is the answer to this problem? Well one answer is to maintain some integrity and tell the truth and if you are trying to help people build an online business, be honest about the fact that some of the things they need to do to build a successful business are actually going to take some effort and will need some time in order to make them work.
Then if you maintain that honesty and integrity and you have demonstrated that when you have found some products, services or systems that simply did not work. You reviewed them honestly and told it how it was, warts and all.
What will happen eventually is that people will start to believe you and they will trust what you tell them. So when you do find an excellent way to share bookmarks on the social book marking sites and promote it, they will be inclined to take your word for it. Likewise if you think you have found an excellent way to brand and promote a small business, they may also be inclined to believe you.
I know that all sounds a bit cynical, but generally anyone that has spent time trying to build a business on the Internet or looking for value for their money will have at some point invested in products or services that promised the world and actually delivered nothing. That does make life a little tough for the genuine guys out there because the first response is nearly always going to be ‘I don’t believe it’.
It’s not the end of the world though because you can take a stance of trying to provide value for money and if you persist in this approach people will gradually come to trust you. Then when you have earned that trust you can build your business. So just remember that integrity is key, helping people out is essential and never renege on your promises, even when people do start to trust you.
Because, as everyone says, ‘The Money is in the List’ but lists cannot be built on a dishonest basis.
Hey thanks for these cool tips. I’ve written a post on “Why and How to Build an Email List” on my blog. Just follow the link and share your thoughts on it.
Thanks.
People with genuine desire to help others are going to be successful in the long term. There is not short cut in life.
I don’t disagree with that statement, but you still need to know who is intresested and needs your help. The list gives you that.
List building is one the extremely critical steps in building a successful business online. This may take time, especially in the beginning, but it is well worth the effort. Having a poor mailing list means you are pretty much dead in the water.
List building is one if not the most important aspect of blogging for money, with a list of subscribers to a specific topic you have a ready made customer base and the more the better. One thing you should never do however is sell your list to a third party, if anyone even suspects that you have done that, you will be dead in the water. I know from personal experience that this can happen, and I hate spam as much as anyone, so if I suspect someone has forwarded my email on, that is the end of the relationship no matter how useful I found the site.
